Chlamydia outreach support - behaviour support in communities

As part of our Health and Lifestyle Services, we’re spearheading an innovative new Chlamydia Outreach project alongside NHS Wirral. Our team are working in the heart of local communities, using targeted behaviour change and behavioural support techniques to deliver a truly holistic end-to end approach around young people’s sexual health.

As well as promoting screening services and offering one-to-one ‘brief intervention’ sessions which reinforce positive messages, our community intervention workers signpost young people to appropriate sexual health services and provide STI information, condoms and advice to reduce risk-taking behaviour around their sexual health.

Crucially, we are promoting chlamydia testing for 16-24s in non-traditional health settings, including pubs and clubs, sports venues, workplaces and venues such as leisure centres.

We are also delivering targeted approaches to identify high risk groups locally. The focus is on using straightforward language to normalise the testing process and focus on key messages around chlamydia.

In addition, the ICE team is supporting Wirral’s Chlamydia Screen Office with the collection and processing of samples, providing a robust and complementary service which adheres to the Trust’s working practices and standards.
